Luka Jovic explained the reason why he decided to leave Real Madrid for Fiorentina in the summer.

The Serbian striker broke onto the European scene in the 2017-18 season with Eintracht Frankfurt, when he netted eight goals in 22 league appearances. The following campaign, Jovic scored 27 goals in 48 games for the German outfit, becoming one of the highest rated youngsters in Europe.

He joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2019 but failed to find success, only scoring three goals in 51 games. Despite joining for over €60m that summer, Jovic left on a free transfer earlier this year, penning a two-year contract with Fiorentina.

Speaking to Serbian outlet ATV, Jovic explained why he decided to accept the Viola’s offer this summer.

“I had offers from even bigger clubs, but I decided to come to Fiorentina. I made a big financial sacrifice by accepting the offer from the Viola.

“I think Fiorentina is a good springboard to get back into top form and return to a big club again.”

The 24-year-old Jovic has made 18 appearances across all competitions this season for Fiorentina, playing 991 minutes of action. In that time, he’s netted six goals, slowly showing signs of his old form.

  1. Hardly going to endear himself to the Viola faithful with comments like that!
Still, could prove a very sound move financially former the Viola.
