Stevan Jovetic picked seven ex or current Serie A players in his all-time ideal XI, including Gigi Buffon and Paolo Maldini.

The Manchester City forward spoke to the official club website and outlined the reasons behind his choices.

“Buffon in goal because I remember him 15 years ago when I was a kid. He was always at the top and now aged 35 at Juventus he’s still there. For me he is one of the best.”

“Buffon in goal because I remember him 15 years ago when I was a kid. He was always at the top and now aged 35 at Juventus he’s still there. For me he is one of the best.”

The entire back four also had experience in Serie A, namely ex-Inter left-back Roberto Carlos, former Roma and Milan right-back Marcos Cafu, then Rossoneri duo Maldini and Alessandro Nesta.

“Maldini played for one club for 20 years and was always at the top level. He won two or three Champions League trophies with Milan and I don’t know many titles. I think that’s enough!

“Nesta also won everything with Milan and was playing at the top level. The right-back is Cafu, because I remember him playing for Roma and then Milan. For me he’s one of the best.”

Steven Gerrard, Andres Iniesta and ex-Juventus star Zinedine Zidane completed the midfield.

In attack, Jovetic picked Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and former Inter centre-forward Ronaldo.
