Italy internationals Jorginho and Emerson Palmieri have won the Champions League with Chelsea, beating favourites Manchester City 1-0 in the Final thanks to a Kai Havertz goal.

The decisive moment came just before half-time, Havertz running onto an inspired Mason Mount through ball and anticipating Ederson to turn into the empty net.

The night was also dominated by injuries, Thiago Silva going off in the first half with a groin strain, then Kevin De Bruyne following a clash of heads with Antonio Rudiger.

Timo Werner wasted a couple of good chances early on, but Manchester City barely threatened an equaliser in the second half.

Deep into the seven minutes of stoppages, Riyadh Mahrez’s strike grazed a coat of paint off the woodwork with Edouard Mendy rooted to the spot.

It was a remarkable victory for Thomas Tuchel, who only took over from sacked Frank Lampard on January 26.

Jorginho played the full Final, while Emerson was on the bench.
