Jorginho’s agent is convinced that the former Napoli midfielder will take the next penalty kick for Italy and reveals talks to extend his contract with Chelsea have not yet begun.

Jorginho ranked third at the Ballon d’Or after becoming European champion for club and country in 2021.

“Jorginho finished behind two incredible top players such as Messi and Lewandowski and ahead of Ronaldo, Neymar and many other champions. Surely, he is proud of what he has achieved,” Joao Santos told Tuttomercatoweb.

However, the former Napoli and Hellas Verona midfielder took centre stage for all the wrong reasons during the last international breaks missing crucial penalty kicks against Switzerland.

The Azzurri picked up draws in both games against the Swiss and will have to go through the play-offs to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Will Jorginho take the next penalty kick for the Azzurri?

“I think so,” said Joao Santos.

“If the coach believes Jorginho can still be the first option, then he will step up. The penalty kick is all or nothing, but every game is a different story, as you can see when he scored against Manchester United.”

Jorginho’s contract with the Premier League giants expires in June 2023, but the two parties are still not in talks over a new deal.

“Not yet, we have a year and a half left in his contract, and we haven’t discussed a new deal yet. Perhaps, we’ll do it in the future,” Joao Santos concluded.

Jorginho made his Italy debut in March 2016 under Antonio Conte in a 1-1 draw against Spain. He has now five goals in 42 appearances with the Azzurri.

  1. The idea of this man taking Italy’s next penalty is an absolute joke unless they’re already leading 3 or 4-0. Insanity.
