Jorginho “was very close to leaving Napoli this summer, but now he’s very happy,” confirmed his agent.

The creative midfielder was often benched by Rafa Benitez and found his form under Maurizio Sarri in a 4-3-3 formation.

“He is doing very well and is very happy. We spoke after the 4-0 over Milan and he was so enthusiastic, as he didn’t expect such a strong victory,” agent Joao Santos told gianlucadimarzio.com.

“He has finally found that consistency he needed to express all his potential. He also has the right Coach. He has a great rapport with Sarri, always telling me he’s a hard worker and an honest person.

“Plus his style of work keeps Jorginho happy, because at the end of the day those who do best during the week end up getting the nod to play.

“He was happy with Benitez too, as the Spanish Coach did have great faith in Jorginho.”

Yet the former Hellas Verona midfielder had been widely tipped to move away from the Stadio San Paolo.

“Everything has changed since the summer. After the arrival of new players, we thought the moment had come to leave. A quality player like Jorginho cannot sit on the bench.

“There were five sides interested in Jorginho: four Italian and one English. We were very close to leaving Napoli, then director of sport Cristiano Giuntoli arrived. He told us that the club really believed in him and considered him untouchable.

“Therefore we decided to postpone any discussion until January.”
