Jorginho saw a ‘good training session’ for Italy in the friendly draw with Turkey and reveals the advice he gave to Nicolò Fagioli in midfield.

The midfielder was the captain this evening, as the armband goes to the player with the most senior caps and Gianluigi Donnarumma was on the bench.

It was a disappointing 0-0 draw at the Stadio Dall’Ara, though Italy had the best scoring opportunity when Bryan Cristante’s header thumped the upright on a Lorenzo Pellegrini corner kick.

“It was not easy against a well-organised side, but it was a good training session,” Jorginho told RAI Sport.

“There are still things to be improved, it is not simple, but we can do it because we’re all eager to play the way the coach asks.”

Jorginho advice for Fagioli

Jorginho was substituted by Juventus midfielder Fagioli on the hour mark, giving the player his return to international duty almost a year on from his ban for illegal gambling.

“Fagioli is a player who can see the game well. He needs to work a little bit on his intensity, but that will come with time. I told him to keep the tempo up, as that is important for our team to remain solid.

“We tried to find spaces, but it was not easy, especially as Yazici was glued to me and not even really paying attention to the ball.”

Italy are the reigning European Champions, but they go into the EURO 2024 tournament as underdogs.

“We are still Italy, there is always going to be respect and it will not be easy for anyone to play against us.”

The Nazionale begin their EURO 2024 campaign in the group stage against Albania on June 15, Spain on June 20 and then Croatia on June 24.
