Italy playmaker Jorginho becomes the fifth Azzurri player to play in a Champions League or European Cup Final and a European Championship or World Cup Final in the same season.
The former Napoli midfielder helped Chelsea lift the Champions League trophy with a 1-0 win over Manchester City in 2020-21 and is now preparing for the Final of the UEFA Euro 2020 Final at Wembley tonight.
Jorginho, born in Brazil, has been capped 34 times by the Azzurri and is one of the key players in Roberto Mancini’s side.
The 29-year-old has played all six games at the Euros this summer and scored the decisive penalty in the semi-final shootout against Spain last time.
Opta reports Jorginho ‘becomes the fifth Italian player to play the Champions League/European Cup Final and the EUROs or World Cup Final in a single season’.
The four other players to complete such a feat were from the Milan side that beat Barcelona 4-0 in the Champions League Final in 1994.
Daniele Massaro scored a brace in that game, with Paolo Maldini, Demetrio Albertini and Roberto Donadoni also in the side.
The four played in the World Cup Final defeat against Brazil the same year, when Massaro missed a penalty in the shootout.
