The Brazilian midfielder’s extension was finally made official yesterday, with the 24-year-old set to remain at San Paolo until 2020.

“We reached an agreement on Friday, but we were missing the signature of the President [Aurelio De Laurentiis],” Joao Santos explained to TV Luna.

“Without the signature of the President we couldn’t talk of an agreement, which has now arrived so I can also confirm the renewal.

“In June we had offers to leave, but [sporting director Cristiano] Giuntoli and [Coach Maurizio] Sarri immediately put their trust in him.

“The best gift Jorginho can give the Coach is to play at his peak and repay that trust.

“Napoli for life? Napoli have a similar philosophy to Barcelona, buy players at around 21 and improve them so you can reap the rewards five years down the line.

“My client is now on holiday, he’ll be back on Friday.”

Despite being born in Brazil, Jorginho has represented Italy at youth level, and has made it clear he’d like to go to Euro 2016 with the Azzurri.

“It’s difficult to go to the European Championships with Italy, because there’s a pre-defined hierarchy.

“The chances will only increase if Napoli find themselves in a good position in the table come March.”
