The Spaniard has expressed his desire to go “home” to his old club, but the Viola slammed the door unless there’s a €5m transfer fee.

“Joaquin is in a complex situation,” agent Eduardo Espejo told Cadena Cope.

“He publicly confirmed what he wants. There is huge affection from the Fiorentina fans, but in Italy they do not realise what Betis means to Joaquin.

“The Viola have their reasons, but my job is to defend Joaquin. I tried to resolve the issue in Florence, taking into account that Joaquin has already left his mark as a player and a man, so cannot do more than he already has.

“Now it’s up to Betis and Fiorentina. We don’t want to pressure anyone, but will express what the player wants. I am optimistic, but to be honest the reality of the situation tells me something else.

“I repeat, Joaquin has done all he could. Now we are waiting for Betis to take action and Fiorentina to be understanding.”
