The Spaniard returned to his hometown club in the summer after two seasons with La Viola, but regretted not being given more playing time at the Artemio Franchi.

“The first year I was playing one game at a time but not two in a row,” he told Spanish outlet Decano Deportivo.

“Montella didn’t rely on me and I wasn’t doing well.

“The second year began badly because I was completely left out and for two months I trained by myself.

“I'm sorry that I didn’t enjoy the entire two seasons in Florence, but in the end I was happy and the fans loved me.

“The return to the Betis? Watford also made me an offer. Money is important, but my heart wanted something else and I couldn’t go against it.”
