“The first person I talked to was the director [Piero] Ausilio, the negotiation started before the Euros. Fortunately everything went well.

“The mood is positive after the win against Pescara. We are confident looking ahead to the future.”

The 23-year-old then spoke about his compatriots who have previously worked at Inter, before drawing on the example of his national team to suggest Inter can upset the odds to beat Juventus on Sunday.

“I knew that Inter have always had an extraordinary tradition. It’s enough to remember some of the players who have worked here, like Mourinho and Figo.

“I had the chance to continue at Sporting, but I felt the need to test myself somewhere else.

“It will be a very important match for everyone, I hope that the team can do well. Often the underdog gets the better of it, I think about Portugal.

“We weren’t the favourites, but we won the Euros.”
