Portugal international Joao Mario jokes he’s “trying to talk Cristiano Ronaldo into joining me at Inter.”

The midfielder won Euro 2016 with his country, beating hosts France in extra time in the Final.

“It was a unique experience, as since childhood I dreamed of winning something with my country,” Joao Mario told Inter Channel.

“Even then, I never could’ve predicted a day like that. There is a lot of quality in the Portugal side and obviously Cristiano Ronaldo is our standard-bearer and most important player.

“I’m trying to talk Cristiano Ronaldo into joining me at Inter! Ah well, let’s say it’s difficult,” he laughed.

“Cristiano isn’t just a teammate, he is also a friend, a good person and a born leader.”

Inter have been revitalised under new Coach Stefano Pioli, winning eight competitive games in a row, and face Pescara on Saturday.

“It’s a difficult game and I have learned that in Italy there are no easy matches. Every side plays with intensity, physicality and quality, so we must give our best to win.

“It’s natural to have motivation against Juventus, Milan or Napoli, but to have a good season you need to win these smaller fixtures.”
