Jeremie Boga is on the verge of a transfer from Atalanta to Leicester City, so we look at the winger who was their most expensive ever signing, but never quite recovered his old form since a long COVID battle.
The clubs are working on completing a permanent transfer before the deadline, which for Premier League clubs to buy is 23.00 UK time.
The deadline in Italy is at 20.00 UK time, but that is only to purchase players, so will not limit sales.
Boga is still only 25 years old and spent time in the Chelsea youth academy, as well as playing for Rennes, Birmingham City and Granada before his move to Sassuolo for €10m in 2018.
He flourished with the Neroverdi and earned himself a loan with obligation to buy for a total €22m to Atalanta in January 2022.
That made him the most expensive signing in the history of Atalanta, but with the club failing to qualify for Europe and bringing in Ademola Lookman this summer, Boga suddenly became expendable.
He never quite brought the same form to Atalanta that he had shown at Sassuolo, making just 23 appearances for La Dea with two goals and one assist.
Fans identify the moment where it went wrong for Boga as August 2020, when he was diagnosed with COVID-19 and continued to test positive for six weeks.
That is highly unusual, as people tend to recover in circa 10 days.
Boga has never quite been the same player since that long lay-off, losing a few yards of pace, which was his greatest strength.
He also went on to have other muscular issues and was more prone to injuries.
