James Rodriguez said he has “20 days to think about my future, but it depends on Real Madrid” after Atletico Madrid intercepted the Napoli deal.

The Colombian attacking midfielder was widely expected to join Napoli and his former Real and Bayern Munich Coach Carlo Ancelotti, but reports in Spain from Cadena Ser and Onda Cero suggest Atleti are significantly stepping up their efforts.

“I have 20 days to think about my future,” James told reporters after Colombia’s Copa America elimination on penalties against Chile.

“It all depends on Real Madrid. The people there make the decisions, I can’t do anything.”

The 27-year-old spent the past two seasons on loan at Bayern Munich, but the Bavarians declined to exercise their option to buy, sending him back to Madrid.

It had been hoped that Colombia's Copa America exit would allow Napoli to bring the announcement forward, but James seems to be in no rush.

The Partenopei are offering a loan with obligation to buy that would spread out the cost of the operation, but Real Madrid would prefer the cash upfront.
