Armando Izzo has renewed his Genoa contract, on what is believed to be a five-year deal.

The centre-back has been banned for the last six months for failing to report match fixing, something he has always denied.

He can return to the pitch this weekend, and today on Instagram he has announced that he’s renewed his contract with the club that stood by him.

“I’m very honoured to announced that I’ll be able to remain in the Genoa family,” Izzo wrote on his Instagram.

“In recent months the technical staff, my teammates, fans, friends [the real ones] have stood behind me and picked me up in moments where I felt dark, and when I was saddened to know I couldn’t go on the pitch.

“I’ll represent this city which I feel in my skin and which has grown to be a part of me. I’m proud to have renewed my contract, and I’m happy to be able to show my feelings, my soul and my heart for these colours.

“I can promise the greatest commitment, always my heart and soul whenever I wear this shirt! A special thought to the Preziosi family, to the President, who was always by my side!

“They supported me and gave me the strength to overcome this absurd story. Now let’s roll up our sleeves and think about the pitch with even more desire and strength. Forza Grifone!”
