“Qualifying for Europe is not mandatory, but I feel it is an objective within our grasp,” Ausilio told Sky Sport Italia.

The Nerazzurri have been linked with a summer bid for Argentine talent Iturbe, who is on loan from Porto and Verona already stated they’ll take up their option.

“He is not just someone Walter Mazzarri really likes, as he is of interest to many clubs. He exploded as a very young player, then lost his way a little and is now finding his path again.

“He has a lot of quality, but I think there are many overseas clubs who are tracking him. Iturbe is not in our price-range, so I don’t want to create any expectations or take fans for a ride.

“It’s only right the supporters know what the figures are and in that sense there’s no chance for Iturbe.”

However, Inter do seem set to renew Fredy Guarin’s contract after extending Rodrigo Palacio’s deal this week.

“We are working on it and sure we’ll reach an agreement soon. These things always take a little time.”
