Former Italy and Inter midfielder Gigi Di Biagio believes Simone Inzaghi has brought Inter to a ‘new dimension’ after Antonio Conte’s exit in the summer.

The Nerazzurri are the Serie A table leaders with a two-point lead over Milan and a game in hand.

They picked up a 0-0 draw against Atalanta on Sunday but won the Supercoppa Italiana against Juve last week.

They have also qualified for the Champions League Round of 16 for the first time in ten years and will face Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool next month.

“Conte gave a strong basis to this team, but Inzaghi’s hand is already evident,” Di Biagio told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I was at the stadium for the Supercoppa last week and Inter impressed me. Their intensity and quality were outstanding. They are entertaining and have the typical mentality of a top team.”

Inter won their first Serie A title in 11 years under Conte last term, but the coach left the club after a two-year spell, moving to Tottenham after a few months.

“Conte unlocked something in the players’ heads, but Simone has quickly brought Inter to a new dimension,” continued Di Biagio.

“The team has evolved. No matter the opponent, what counts is to prove to be stronger.”

Di Biagio played four seasons at Inter, scoring 18 goals in 163 games with the Nerazzurri. He also played 31 games at a senior level with Italy, making his last appearance with the Azzurri in November 2002.
