Italy’s hopes of hosting the European Championship in 2032 have risen following UEFA’s decision to suspend Russia’s application.

The Russian Football Association applied to host either Euro 2028 or Euro 2032 earlier this year, but their chances looked fairly slim following the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine. UEFA already suspended Russian clubs from their competitions following the invasion and the application seemed hopeful at best.

Italy are now hopeful that their Euro 2032 bid will take pole position, although they’re still competing with Turkey, who are also keen. The Turkish football federation have also expressed their desire to host Euro 2028, but they’re facing competition from the United Kingdom’s joint bid with Ireland.

Italy have hosted the European Championships twice before. They held the third ever running of the competition in 1968, where they beat Yugoslavia in the final, and 12 years later Italy held the tournament again in 198, where they finished fourth.

  1. lol so war gonna be going on for another 10 years? If war with Russia lasts that long I think the Euros will be least of our concern by then. Don’t know how full the stadiums will be when radiation levels are still going to be very elavated.

  2. Stefan, the hosting right will be announed before next 10yrs, Russia should be isolated,I don’t care if is 2050.

  3. I completely agree with you 100% I think Russia is slowly failing and losing the war I am just saying 10 years from now is a loooooong time so much can and hopefully will change hopefully Putin falls and real Russia maybe someone like Navalny takes over and brings Russia back to the 21st century. My point with my statement is to think 10 years from now this will still be an issue is crazy, because if it is football will be our least concern thats the point I was trying to make. Maybe postpone the hosting selection for a few years given all the uncertainty.

  4. No chance America would be banned from hosting a tournament if they invaded somewhere, though.

As for Italy, if they do miraculously win it, expect a quick paint job and a few new seats put in.

Unfortunately, England and Turkey are miles ahead of Italy with stadiums.

  5. Ferban, the USA saved Europe from itself in WWII. That should NEVER be forgotten… if it’s went to war since, it has been to fight real threats (like communism)

  6. hey Bob – The US was instrumental in defeating Nazi Germany there is no doubt. BUt the blood and riches were paid by the Soviet Union and the Red Army. Communism saved Europe from Nazism but then imposed something not much better i(n terms of freedom of movement) on the east.
As for US invasions and proxy wars: Iraq, South America, ‘the war on drugs’, Laos, Cambodia . . . . These have all been imperial aggressions. The US has used chemical weapons and huge bombing campaigns against civilian populations in SE Asia. Iraq and Vietnam were peasant armies and insurgents (both then defeated the US) and in both instances the civilian populations suffered from aggression by a far superior military force.
And then there is all the financial support and diplomatic cover the US gives to autocratic and Apartheid regimes like Egypt and Isreal, the propping up of military juntas in South America. The list is really endless. Non of which excuses what Russia is doing.

If you think America was/is at war to fight communism or terrorism, you have no clue at all how the world works.

Read what Feroli said, as he knows what he’s talking about.
