La Gazzetta dello Sport initially revealed the coach prepared a list of players to ensure they are fully vaccinated in time for the tournament, even if Italy is lagging well behind schedule in terms of vaccinating the general population.

On Monday, the Azzurri squad received their first dose of the vaccine, waiting for the vaccinations of staff and managers, and this was inevitably going to cause some controversy.

Many older and vulnerable residents have not yet received their jab, so under six million have been fully vaccinated and under 20 million have received their first dose.

L’Equipe now reports the Italy squad are an exception in Europe too, where footballers are still not considered a priority.

The FIGC President Gabriele Gravina confirmed the players had been vaccinated on Monday and thanked the Italian Government for giving them ‘the possibility of hosting the Finals’ in Rome.
