Italy play Slovenia in the last match of Group B in the European Under-21 Championship and the fight for a place in the quarter-finals is completely open.
Paolo Nicolato’s men sit third in the table and must win against Slovenia, the last match in the group stage of this year’s competition.
The Azzurrini have their fate in their own hands with Spain currently top of Group B with four points, followed by Czech Republic and Italy with two each.

The Azzurrini have their fate in their own hands with Spain currently top of Group B with four points, followed by Czech Republic and Italy with two each.
Slovenia sit bottom with one point and none of the four teams are certain to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.
Everything will be decided on the last day of the group stages and two teams advance from Group B.
If Nicolato’s men beat Slovenia, they will have five points and could therefore finish first in the table if Czech Republic and Spain draw their meeting.
If Czech Republic win against Spain and Italy win over Slovenia, the Azzurrini are through on the expense of the Furia Rojita.
If Italy draw with Slovenia, Spain must beat Czech Republic for Nicolato’s men to advance to the next stage.
Italy also qualify for the quarter-finals if they draw with Slovenia by scoring at least two goals, as long as Spain and Czech Republic ends 0-0.
The goal difference between Italy and Czech Republic will remain the same in the event of two draws and Nicolato’s men will therefore have to score at least two more than their rivals.
Czech Republic currently have two goals scored and two conceded against Italy’s one and in the event of a draw with just one more goals for Italy U21, the Azzurrini would, as we speak, be eliminated by the Fair Play classification due to the amount of bookings received so far in the competition.
