Head of Civil Protection Angelo Borrelli has announced that there will be no more daily coronavirus press conferences in Italy.

Press conferences have been held seven days a week since February 22, when the first cases of COVID-19 were reported in the country.

However, they will now be limited to twice a week, with Borrelli confirming Friday’s bulletin would be the last of its current run.

“The health data indicates that the pressure on hospitals has eased significantly, and all this makes us aware of the great work done in hospitals and the collaboration of our citizens,” he said.

“This is why we’ve decided to remodel the press conferences: we’ll continue to ensure maximum transparency of the data every day by publishing it on our website, while we’ll hold press conferences twice a week.”

The press conferences have been used to announce the daily figures of coronavirus cases.

They have been hosted by Borrelli, barring those for March 25 and 26 due to him showing fever symptoms.
