Italy international Marco Verratti already has a terrible disciplinary record, but even then getting himself sent off 12 minutes after coming on as a substitute for Paris Saint-Germain has to be a new low.

The midfielder is famous for picking up an extraordinary number of yellow cards during his career, particularly at club level for the French giants.

Verratti was initially rested against Stade Reims in Ligue 1 this evening and came off the bench at half-time.

He lasted barely 12 minutes before receiving a straight red card for the studs-up tackle on Junya Ito’s ankle.

The referee had initially shown the yellow card, but changed it to red after a VAR on-field review.

This was the 30-year-old’s sixth red card in 401 competitive games for PSG, but the first to be a straight red, as the others were all second bookable offences.

The Italian also amassed 11 goals, 61 assists and 131 yellow cards.
