New Italy sensation Willy Gnonto has a ‘dream of coming back to Inter,’ said his father, but the summer isn’t over as he now participates in the European Under-19 Championship.

The 18-year-old forward made his senior Italy debut this month and ended up featuring in all four Nations League matches.

He even scored a goal in last night’s 5-2 defeat away to Germany and has been repeatedly linked with a move to Serie A, where he has never played.

“I am pleased that he scored, but considering the way the game went, it doesn’t make much difference,” his father Boris Gnonto told Radio Uno Rai.

“We did not celebrate his first goal and neither did he. I spoke to Willy this morning, he was downbeat and angry. Now he won’t even come home yet, because he’s going into the Under-19 national team.”

The teenager was a product of the Inter youth academy, but walked away as a free agent to get more regular playing time at FC Zurich.

That worked and now he wants a return to Serie A.

“We’ll see where the market takes us. I read about many teams interested, including Monza and Torino, but his dream is a return to Inter.”

That seems unlikely, as Gnonto’s price-tag continues to rise and has reached at least €10-15m thanks to those Italy performances.

Meanwhile, Gnonto will join up with the Italy Under-19 squad to play in the European Championship from June 18.

The Azzurri are in the same group as France, Romania and Slovakia.
