Italy Prime Minister Mario Draghi expressed his concern to FIGC president Gabriele Gravina regarding the COVID situation that is currently affecting Serie A.

Four of the 10 matches scheduled for yesterday were not played, with games like BolognaInter and AtalantaTorino postponed due to COVID outbreaks within the squads. Lega Serie A have met today to discuss the protocols and what should be done in the coming weeks.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, Draghi phoned Gravina to express his concerns over the situation. One of the issues raised in the phone call was the fact that many fans are not wearing FFP2 masks whilst inside stadiums, which are required by the new regulations. He is also unhappy that clubs are seemingly turning a blind eye to this, and so he’s made it clear that things cannot continue like this.

The FIGC and Lega Serie A have no intention of calling a stop to the season and they also are not keen to return to playing behind closed doors, although this could still happen if things continue to get worse. The results of this afternoon’s federal meeting have still not been released yet, so the Italian footballing world is now eagerly awaiting the upcoming press release.
