Italy continue to pressure for time-outs to be sanctioned for today’s match with Costa Rica, but the rules indicate they may be unsuccessful.
The Azzurri have made a point through the likes of FIGC Vice-President Demetrio Albertini, chief team doctor Enrico Castellacci and CT Cesare Prandelli in asking that the governing body permit water breaks during today’s game with Costa Rica.
The Group D clash will be played in Recife at 1pm local time and the Italians are concerned with the temperature and climate they may have to face.
However, indications are that their appeals may prove fruitless, with FIFA’s case by case basis still seen as following specific guidelines on temperature.
FIFA have ruled that two breaks in play can be taken when temperatures reach 32 degrees, but the expectation is that today’s levels will not surpass 27 degrees.
Team officials will meet with FIFA’s designated doctor for the game an hour-and-a-half before kick-off to ultimately decide on sanctioning breaks or not.
