Coach Ventura said he’s going to re-make the Nazionale into his favoured 4-2-4 formation, scrapping the 3-5-2 used by Antonio Conte at Euro 2016.

Because of this tactical switch, he can bring back Insigne, while Nicola Sansone is called after strong form at Villarreal.

There is a first ever call-up for Sassuolo wide forward Matteo Politano and Lazio midfielder Danilo Cataldi.

Marchisio gets his recall after six months out with a torn ACL, which forced him to miss Euro 2016, while Torino full-back Davide Zappacosta is also brought back.

Lazio midfielder Marco Parolo is suspended for the Liechtentstein game.
