FIGC President Gabriele Gravina said Italy are open to hosting games if the Ukrainian League wants to continue its season during the war.

The football world is rushing to do all it can to help Ukraine following the attack from Russia, which is on-going complete with an investigation into possible war crimes.

The Ukrainian Government had not expected the invasion to happen and only suspended its football league a couple of days before the tanks rolled across the border.

It saw Shakhtar Donetsk coach Roberto De Zerbi and his Italian staff, as well as foreign players, trapped in Kyiv until a couple of days ago.

Shakhtar were the league leaders with 48 points after 19 rounds, followed by Dinamo Kyiv on 46.

Now the Italian Football Federation has come up with an intriguing idea to play the Prem’er Liha games on Italian soil.

“The FIGC is prepared, as well as collaborating to help welcome refugees, to also host Ukrainian league games,” President Gravina told the Corriere della Sera newspaper.

“We are working on other initiatives too.”

They started all Serie A matches five minutes late last week, with a message read out before kick-off calling for peace.

This weekend, the words ‘NO WAR’ appear as part of the world feed television graphics on the scoresheet.

  1. Pretty sure football would be at the backburner when your country is fighting for its existance? Many of Ukraine’s athletes are picking up arms and I am not sure they would be able to focus on playing football anyway.

The offer seems to be a nice gesture, but it is defnitely not the right time IMHO.
