It is now confirmed that the Stadio Barbera in Palermo will be at 100 per cent capacity for the World Cup play-off between Italy and North Macedonia as part of a wider roadmap out of COVID restrictions.

The current maximum capacity for matches in open-air arenas in Italy is 75 per cent due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

Only those who are fully vaccinated and are wearing a mask are allowed into the stadium, but social distancing requirements still remain.

The FIGC had requested special dispensation to have this match open at 100 per cent capacity and the permission has now been given by the Government, after consultation with both the Ministry of Health and the Undersecretary for Sport.

It means more tickets will be put on sale for the game against North Macedonia on March 24, as they had already sold out completely at 75 per cent capacity.

The winners of this match will go on to face either Portugal or Turkey for a place at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

This comes on the same day that the Italian Government announced a roadmap for an end to COVID restrictions.

From April 1 to April 30, the stadium capacity will increase to 100 per cent and a Green Pass will be sufficient to enter, so not necessarily fully vaccinated, but a negative COVID test will suffice.

After April 30, masks will no longer be required indoors.
