Andrea Belotti and Federico Chiesa scored hat-tricks in Italy’s 9-1 win against Cremonese Primavera team today, but Roberto Mancini must deal with the injury of Giorgio Chiellini.
The Italy and Juventus captain suffered a flexor injury against Switzerland on Wednesday and will miss Sunday’s game against Wales.
The Azzurri will win their group if they don’t lose against Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale’s side at the Stadio Olimpico. Italy have already booked their place in the knock-out stage and will play the Round of 16 on June 26 regardless of the final position in their group.
According to Sky Sport Italia, it is still unsure that Chiellini will recover in time for the knock-out stage, but his physical conditions will be monitored daily.
Meantime, the Azzurri that did not play against Switzerland on Wednesday faced Cremonese Primavera team in a friendly at Coverciano.
Marco Verratti started the game that lasted 50 minutes (two halves of 25 minutes each).
Manuel Locatelli replaced the PSG midfielder in the opening two games of the Euros and the Sassuolo man shined with two goals against Switzerland.
He was named MVP and La Gazzetta dello Sport joked about Verratti asking where he will play once he is available again.
Italy won 9-1 against Cremonese with hat-tricks from Belotti and Chiesa, a Matteo Pessina brace and a Federico Bernardeschi goal.
Gian Piero Lauciello scored Cremonese’s only goal.
Roberto Mancini’s men will resume training in Coverciano tomorrow and Gianluigi Donnarumma will reportedly undergo his medical with PSG on Monday, having received the green light from the FIGC and Roberto Mancini.
