Italy CT Roberto Mancini has called up West Ham defender Emerson Palmieri to replace the injured Federico Dimarco.

Football Italia can confirm the former Roma and Chelsea left-back will join the Azzurri in Coverciano to replace Dimarco.

The Inter defender sustained a minor injury during Sunday’s 1-0 loss at San Siro and underwent exams in Coverciano this morning.

Results have shown Dimarco will need to rest over the next few days, not being available for games against England and Malta this week. Emerson will join the Azzurri in Coverciano, replacing his compatriot.

Emerson, 28, made his senior Italy debut in September 2018 under Mancini and has played 28 games with the Azzurri.

He was part of the team that won the Euros almost two years ago.

Italy trained at Coverciano on Monday afternoon without Dimarco and Chiesa. The Juventus winger won’t be replaced after sustaining a new injury in the game against Inter on Sunday.

He underwent exams in Turin today, which ‘ruled out any lesions’, Juventus confirmed.
