Several former Serie A stars got their coaching badges today with Alessandro Del Piero and Daniele De Rossi receiving the highest grades.

The former players began the course for the UEFA A licence in December.

The UEFA A licence course – that allows to train up to Serie C, Italy’s third division – was held online due to the pandemic and is reserved for professionals with long experience in the game.

“After following the 210 hours of training of the educational program, the students took the final exams of the course at Coverciano last Thursday,” the FIGC official statement read.

“In the light of the vote obtained, the best of the course were Daniele De Rossi and Alessandro del Piero. Also noteworthy is the final test by Ignazio Abate.”

De Rossi was part of Roberto Mancini’s Italy staff during the Euros last summer but left his position as he’s willing to begin his coaching career.

Del Piero, a 2006 Italy World Cup winner, has never worked as a coach after the end of his playing career.

Here’s the full list of former players who got their coaching badges:

Ignazio Abate, Gianluca Curci, Alessandro Del Piero, Daniele De Rossi, Daniele Gastaldello, Massimo Maccarone, Alessandro Matri, Riccardo Montolivo, Marcelo Otero, Giampaolo Pazzini, David Pizarro, Stefano Torrisi e Christian Vieri.
