Roberto Mancini’s Italy have gained a place in the updated FIFA men’s world rankings, overtaking Luis Enrique’s Spain.

The Azzurri booked their spot in the Final Four of the Nations League in the recent international break after picking up wins over Hungary and England, allowing them to finish top of their group. It was a positive step forward for Italy, who will not be taking part in the upcoming World Cup in Qatar after their disastrous loss to North Macedonia earlier in the year.

Italy have now risen to 6th in the world rankings, behind Brazil, Belgium, Argentina, France and England. Spain dropped down to 7th, a curious result considering that they’re also part of the Final Four of the Nations League.

The Azzurri’s next two games are friendlies against Albania on November 16 and Austria on November 20.

Mancini is working on revitalising the Italy squad ahead of their next major tournament, likely to be Euro 2024.

  1. The less players from the 50% league loss shaolin handball club that the Azzuri feature the better for them. 28% ball possession at home is not the type of football we want to see for the NT.

  2. It means absolutely nothing to be ranked 6th but not be at the World Cup.

However seeing the perennial bottlers and nobodies in Belgium ranked 2nd making these ranking completely and utterly laughable.

  3. please, i support your right to make comments but when implementing satire to sharpen your point you blunt the edge – its a dull, obtuse and worst an unfunny read. you, and that other sad satirist, reconsider how you draft your message in relation to your command of english

  4. Salt in the wounds… we should be at WC.. travesty… We’d have gone deep… last fall/winter was a brain fart… Mancio’s got them back playing like champs…

  5. We will drop plenty of places after the World Cup and deservedly so. We need to have a good Nations League finals and start strong with the Euro qualifiers to regain our place in the Top Ten.

  6. changes may be coming soon..fifa may have to ban Iran from World Cup over women’s rights, or lack there of

  7. This ranking a laughing thing indeed. How can England be relegated but still be in the top 10 whilst Spain are in 7th. FIFA be careful.

  8. Italy were never top even when they won the WC. These rankings mean something only to FIFA.

SPOT ON! Even though we had been on a very long unbeaten run going into the competition.

Donnarumma saves PSG time and time again last night, but the French papers only speak of Messi’s goal. Skewed BS.

  10. FIFA need to change this BS
What’s the point having rankings if they mean nothing ?
If rankings being used then , use them to make these countries automatically qualify .
Make the top 10 countries automatically qualify
Then surely the European champions should also as does the South Americans as well
The rest of the countries should battle it out .
This way these top 10 countries would secure and safeguard players that already have a huge schedule .
