Italy leapfrog Germany in UEFA rankings

By having a team in all three major European Finals, Italy are second in this season’s UEFA rankings and leapfrog Germany for next term’s co-efficient.

There were five Calcio representatives in the semi-finals, while Roma went all the way to the Europa League Final, Fiorentina to the Conference League Final and Inter will face Manchester City in the Champions League on Saturday.

If the Viola had been able to beat West Ham United, they might’ve challenged for top spot in the UEFA rankings this season, but even an Inter triumph in Istanbul couldn’t bridge the gap.

As it stands, they will be second for the 2022-23 campaign, the best ever result for Italy since the calculations were introduced.

It also means that next season, Italy will start out in third place in the overall rankings, leapfrogging Germany, with Spain and leaders England out in front.

Another shift sees the Netherlands push France out of the top five.
