As it is the last test before Antonio Conte must whittle down his final 23-man squad for Euro 2016, he will use the starting XI to "wipe out remaining doubts."

Chief among those are the fitness levels of Roma midfielder De Rossi, who has been struggling with an Achilles tendon issue, and the form of Inter striker Eder.

Both are expected to start this evening in Ta'Qali, while Riccardo Montolivo and Thiago Motta are not risked from the beginning after recovering from calf problems.

It is reported that Napoli man Jorginho will only be included in the Euro 2016 party if one of De Rossi, Montolivo and Thiago Motta are injured.

As for Eder, it is his last chance to prove himself, having scored just one Serie A goal since moving from Sampdoria to Inter in January.

The Brazilian-born forward is likely to be cut from the 23-man list along with Davide Astori, Daniele Rugani, Davide Zappacosta, Stefano Sturaro, Giacomo Bonaventura and one out of Jorginho and De Rossi.

Scotland haven't beaten Italy since 1965 at Hampden and that remains their only victory along with two draws and seven defeats.

Conte chose to face Scotland in this warm-up to prepare for Euro 2016 opponents the Republic of Ireland.

Although Gordon Strachan's side failed to qualify for the tournament, they have kept three consecutive clean sheets.
