Mateo Retegui caused concern when leaving the pitch at half time of Genoa’s win over Salernitana, but the Italy striker has not suffered a worrying injury.
The 24-year-old has quickly hit the ground running in Italy since joining the Rossoblu in the summer, scoring five goals and providing two assists across nine games. He played a key role in the recent wins over Lazio and Roma.
Retegui has also impressed for his adopted Italy, scoring twice in four caps. A knee injury ruled him out of international duty for the recent Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and England.
As highlighted by Secolo XIX via Calciomercato.com, medical tests confirmed that Retegui hasn’t suffered a relapse to his previous knee injury or any other issues, avoiding serious injury.
The 24-year-old will be rested for the upcoming Coppa Italia clash against Reggiana but is expected to return to face Cagliari on November 5.
Retegui could be a useful part of the Italy squad for their final Euro 2024 qualifiers against North Macedonia and Ukraine, must win games if they want to qualify.
