Italy international Jorginho reacts to ‘painful mistake’ in Arsenal-Tottenham

Italy international Jorginho thanked Arsenal fans and his teammates for their reaction to his ‘painful mistake’ in the North London derby against Tottenham on Sunday.

Jorginho lost possession in central midfield leading to Tottenham’s eventual equaliser in the second half.

The former Napoli and Hellas Verona midfielder apologised to fans on social media but thanked them too.

“A painful mistake today, but seeing how everyone reacted after my mistake to support and lift me up, my teammates, coaches, staff and you Arsenal fans,” he wrote on Instagram.

“It gives me even more motivation to work harder and harder because all of you deserve the best version of myself. Thank you so much for the support Arsenal family.”

Several Arsenal players and the club itself continued encouraging Jorginho by commenting on his Instagram post.

Jorginho was not called up by new Italy coach Luciano Spalletti for the international break in September and it remains to be seen if he will be given a chance with the Azzurri during the new course.

Spalletti explained Jorginho’s omission last month by saying the Arsenal midfielder had not played enough with his club to be included in the Azzurri squad.

Bryan Cristante and Manuel Locatelli were the playmakers called by Spalletti for games against North Macedonia and Ukraine earlier this month.

Jorginho, 31, made his senior Italy debut in 2016 and has scored five goals in 48 games with La Nazionale.
