Sky Sport Italia reports Stefano Sensi will miss Euro 2020 after having suffered a muscle injury during training, and will be replaced by Matteo Pessina.

Sensi’s troubled campaign ends with a disappointment, as he suffered a muscle strain in his adductors during Thursday’s training with the Azzurri.

Italy have assessed the damage and the report reveals he will miss the European Championship, starting on June 11 in Rome.

Sensi will return home and Matteo Pessina will take his place in Roberto Mancini’s squad.

The Italy CT said it was a difficult decision to cut the Atalanta man from the provisional squad, but the 24-year-old stayed with the squad in case of emergency and will now been included due to Sensi’s last setback.

The former Sassuolo player has struggled with injuries since he left the Neroverdi and moved to Inter ahead of 2019-20. His future at the Giuseppe Meazza is uncertain too.
