Italy have for the first time in their history scored four goals in the opening half-hour of a competitive match, stunning Lithuania.
The Azzurri took just 29 minutes to take a 4-0 lead at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio-Emilia during this evening’s World Cup qualifier.
Curiously, of the first three goals, one was due to a massive deflection off Edgaras Utkus, while the other two scored by Moise Kean and Giacomo Raspadori were assisted by Lithuanian players.
The fourth goal was finally an all-Italian affair, as Federico Bernardeschi put a ball over the top for Kean’s volley off the inside of the left foot.
It is the first time ever that Italy have scored four goals in the opening 30 minutes of an official match.
Sassuolo striker Raspadori also registered his first senior Italy goal in his first start.
He had thought it was going to be a brace, but his original effort was going wide before the Utkus deflection, so UEFA registered it as an own goal.
