Italy go head-to-head with shock leaders Hungary

Italy can still win the Nations League group, but first they must beat Marco Rossi’s Hungary, who stunned Germany on home soil this evening.

This was called the Group of Death when the draw was made and everyone expected Hungary to be rock bottom.

Instead, England have been relegated with just two points from five games, while the Hungarians are out on top with 10 points.

Italy follow on eight, having leapfrogged Germany, who were beaten 1-0 at home by a stunning Adam Szalai flick tonight.

The Azzurri are the only side who have been able to beat Hungary in this Nations League group, 2-1 thanks to Nicolò Barella and Lorenzo Pellegrini efforts.

Otherwise, Rossi’s men beat England 1-0 at home and 4-0 away, held Germany 1-1 on home turf and won 1-0 on their travels.

This means that if Italy get all three points in Budapest on Monday night, they will win the group and qualify for the Nations League Final Four.

  1. Really not sure what to think of this win. Italy won 1-0 against England in this Nations league who along with Germany are probably more focused on their upcoming games in the WC in Nov.

  2. mancini better than marco rossi.
