Italy fans show support for Donnarumma

Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was not loudly jeered by local fans during the warm-up of the Nations League match against England, which bodes well for the game.

It kicks off at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT) at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, also known as San Siro.

There were fears before the game that Donnarumma would be singled out for abuse by the Italy fans, because this game is being played at San Siro, the home of Milan.

The goalkeeper was not forgiven for leaving the Rossoneri as a free agent to join Paris Saint-Germain.

The last time he played for Italy in this arena, Donnarumma was loudly jeered by the local supporters, creating an unfortunate atmosphere and piling more pressure on the young man when representing his country.

So far, the good news during the warm-up is that there have been relatively few jeers from the crowd, drowned out by applause from the rest of the fans present.

It is far from sold out at the Stadio Meazza, with only circa 35,000 tickets sold for this arena that holds 70,000.
