Italy fans have not forgotten what Patrick Vieira had said after Italy’s win against Switzerland two weeks ago and mocked the former midfielder following France’s Euro 2020 exit.

The 2018 World Cup winners have been knocked out of the European Championships after a defeat on penalties against Switzerland in the round of 16.

Les Blues entered the final ten minutes with a two-goal lead, but the Swisses managed to send the game into extra time and win in the shootout where Kylian Mbappé was the only one to miss.

Italy had beaten Switzerland in their second game of the group stage last week, after which Patrick Vieira didn’t seem to be impressed by the Azzurri’s performance.

“I believe that they lack intensity, lack power, pace, to be even more dangerous going forward, so I’m still going to wait,” the former Arsenal man said.

Vieira: ‘Italy lack intensity, pace and power’

“I think it’s still a bit too early to take Italy into consideration, that they can go to the end.”

Italy fans have not forgotten his words and have taunted the 45-year-old on social media.

Hundreds of fans have shared Vieira’s words on Twitter, which come under a very different light now that France have been eliminated at Switzerland’s hands.

Andrea Agnelli’s cousin Lapo Elkann was among those mocking the 45-year-old on Twitter.

Vieira, a Euro 2020 pundit for British TV ITV, is reportedly on the verge of becoming the new Crystal Palace coach next season.
