Luciano Spalletti tested out two different tactical systems in his first Italy training session building up to EURO 2024, focusing on pressing.

The Azzurri have a 29-man preliminary squad going into the tournament in Germany, reduced from 30 because Francesco Acerbi pulled out with a groin injury.

It will have to be reduced to 26 for the competition itself, so Spalletti is using the next few days at the Coverciano training ground to evaluate his squad.

He is also experimenting with different tactical approaches, wanting to make the Nazionale more unpredictable going forward.

According to reporters at the scene, Spalletti used one team in a 4-2-3-1 formation and another set out as 3-4-2-1.

The first goals scored in this game between ranks were from Mateo Retegui and Giacomo Raspadori.

Italy tests

Italy (4-2-3-1): Donnarumma; Di Lorenzo, Mancini, Bastoni, Cambiaso; Fagioli, Cristante; Chiesa, Frattesi/Ricci, Zaccagni; Raspadori

Italy (3-4-2-1): Vicario; Darmian, Calafiori, Buongiorno, Dimarco; Jorginho, Barella/Pellegrini, Bellanova/Orsolini; Folorunsho, El Shaarawy; Retegui
