Spalletti started a new project with the Italy national team upon his arrival in September of last year, exciting fans with his positive brand of 4-3-3 football. Hopes are high for the Azzurri, especially after their recent failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

  1. Gnonto has scored three times as many goals as El Shaarawy in fewer games, helping Leeds to promotion. I think it’s a huge oversight to leave him out of the preliminary squad. Not least because when playing for the Senior Italy team he has been one of our best, most electric and incisive players.

  2. Competition for squad places is a good problem to have.
If Italy get the strikers going it can be a great tournament for them!

  3. Meret and Provedel ahead of Carnesecchi? What about Di Gregorio?
    Cambiaso but no Ruggeri?
How is Fagioli in this squad? Why no colpani?
I also don’t get the inclusion of Zaccagni either.

  4. I’m guessing he will cut Provedel, Fagioli, Folorunsho and either el sha or Ricci. I genuinely hope he doesn’t cut Retegui because we need an alternative to Scamacca.

  5. @Chris – I agree 100% about Gnonto. That kid works hard every time he’s on the pitch, and he would be great on the right side as a replacement to Zaniolo.

  6. How has Fagioli got in this squad. He hardly played this season. Fabbien, Mirreti or Locatelli to name a few have all had better seasons. No meritocracy with Spaletti.
