Lega Serie B have decided to postpone their next two match-days due to an increased number of COVID infections.

The omicron variant of the virus is currently sweeping through Europe, with many countries introducing new restrictions in order to limit the number of infections and hospitalisations, attempting to reduce the impact of COVID during the colder winter months.

As reported by SportItalia, the next two Serie B match-days, scheduled for December 26 and 29, have been postponed due to an increased number of COVID infections amongst the second-tier teams.

The last round of Serie B games concluded on December 19 and things are expected to start back up again on January 15, after the Christmas break. There is a chance that these postponed games could take place ahead of this date.

Serie A has remained mostly unaffected by the omicron variant, with most teams only losing a handful of players to COVID infections, but things could change in the new year.
