Italy have an excellent chance of hosting the 2032 European Championship, as UEFA confirmed their only competition is Turkey and Russia.

A decision will be made for who will host EURO 2028 and EURO 2032 in September 2023.

The FIGC had originally wanted to make a bid for the rights of the 2028 tournament as well, or the 2030 World Cup.

However, they settled on the EURO 2032 competition and the deadline for bids was this evening.

UEFA have now announced that they received declarations of interest from Italy, Russia and Turkey.

The Peninsula ought to have very little competition in this regard, as Russia’s bid smacks of a publicity stunt following the exclusion of their teams from practically all sports, as sanctions bite over the invasion of Ukraine.

As for Turkey, they have repeatedly tried to host tournaments and are not among the favourites for UEFA.

Italy impressed with their hosting of the EURO 2020 opening ceremony and match, as well as the Nations League finals in 2021.

There is little doubt that the biggest problem of Italian football is the infrastructure, as red tape has made it incredibly difficult to revamp existing stadiums, and practically impossible to build a new one on empty land.

Most of the arenas were last refurbished during the 1990 World Cup and it is hoped having another tournament to prepare for with those deadlines and extra funding will push the local councils to finally get things moving.
