Roberto Mancini has lost Marco Verratti to suspension and already confirmed Stefano Sensi will start in his place following impressive form for new club Inter.

Roma midfielder Pellegrini came off the bench to score in Thursday’s 3-1 win away to Armenia and is tipped for a starting spot tomorrow, even if it’s not entirely clear where.

He could step in for Nicolò Barella in the midfield three or move to the left side of the trident attack to replace Federico Chiesa.

Another option for the attack down the left is former Roma star Stephan El Shaarawy, who flew in from Shanghai Shenhua.

Despite his poor performance in Armenia, Federico Bernardeschi is still expected to start alongside Andrea Belotti.

Alessandro Florenzi could be dropped in a tactical move, introducing Torino defender Armando Izzo for what is basically more of a three-man defence, allowing Emerson Palmieri to push up on the left.

Finland will have to make at least one change from their 1-0 win over Greece, as captain Tim Sparv is suspended.

Probable

Italia (4-3-3): G Donnarumma; Florenzi/Izzo, Bonucci, Romagnoli, Emerson; Pellegrini, Jorginho, Sensi; Bernardeschi, Belotti, El Shaarawy/Chiesa
