Italy’s next CT will have to “free themselves” from their contract as the FIGC admits it cannot afford expensive compensation for Coaches.

Roberto Mancini, Antonio Conte and Claudio Ranieri are all in the running to succeed Giampaolo Ventura, but FIGC commissioner Roberto Fabbricini conceded it would be ‘difficult’ to fund their appointments unless they left their respective clubs.

“Why so little talk about Ranieri? We mustn’t go there, also because it’s inappropriate,” he told Radio Anch’io Sport.

“Still, there are people who have contracts in place and very complex international situations to address.

“Either they free themselves up, or diplomatically it becomes difficult to consider them for the national team.

“There are several names and Ranieri is one of them, but issue of who we contact going forward belongs to Costacurta.

“Possibility of extending our relationship with Di Biagio after games against England and Argentina in March? Honestly, this also depends on the availability of the people that Costacurta will contact.

“For now, Di Biagio and I will talk about reorganising the national team and Under-21s.

“Other names? That also depends on the costs they will incur, since the Federation has to deal with budgets. It’s not possible for us to look for sponsors like we did for Conte.

“Date for the new CT? There won’t be anyone concrete in March, although they could be appointed in time for the game against France in June.”
