Manuel Lazzari didn’t join the Italy national team due to personal reasons, but the rest of the squad arrived in Sardinia with their families to begin the first part of the pre-Euro 2020 training camp.

Roberto Mancini has named his 33-man provisional squad for the European Championship, but only 32 of them showed up as Lazio winger Lazzari did not join the rest of the team due to personal reasons, the FIGC announced.

The training camp ahead of Euro 2020 will be split into two parts.

The first one will take place at Santa Margherita di Pula’s Forte Village, in Sardinia, where all the players arrived today after receiving the second shot of the Pfizer vaccine.

Most of the players arrived with their families as they will only train in the morning. This is only the first part of the training camp, halfway between a training retreat and a holiday.

The Serie A campaign ended on May 23 and Mancini wants his players to work together and take some time to rest after such a long season.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, he had already experimented with something similar when he was in charge of Inter.

The training sessions in Sardinia will begin on Tuesday, May 25 and will continue until Friday 28, when the Azzurri will face San Marino in a friendly at the Sardegna Arena.

Players will then leave to have proper holidays and return to Coverciano on June 1 to begin the ‘real’ training retreat.

By that time, Mancini will reduce the team from 32 players to 26, including the likes of Jorginho and Emerson Palmieri, who will surely be included in the Euro 2020 squad.

Both Chelsea players are not taking part in the first part of the training retreat as they will play the Champions League Final on Saturday, May 29.

Stefano Sensi, Marco Verratti and Francesco Acerbi are injured but joined the team in Sardinia anyway.
