Coach Vincenzo Italiano felt Spezia ‘ruined an extraordinary performance’ by letting Bologna bounce back in the 2-2 draw on Wednesday.

Bologna recovered from two goals down and threatened to claim all the spoils at the death, but Musa Barrow missed a penalty kick in stoppages.

The Rossoblu coach Sinisa Mihajlovic felt the result was ‘fair’, but Italiano was ‘sorry’ that Spezia allowed the comeback from the visitors.

“I’m really sorry, because it was very close,” Italiano told Sky Sport Italia. “With a bit of luck, we could have brought this match home.

“We could have gone to 3-1 on several occasions, we had Bologna shoot twice and punish us twice.

“This is a League where you can never let your guard down.”

The match was an historic occasion, as Spezia played their first Serie A game at the Stadio Picco, and M’Bala Nzola scored twice to give them a double advantage with less than 30 minutes to go.

“We wanted to win our first at the Picco, but the performance was at a high level, except for the last few minutes.

“A crazy game, but really interpreted in the best way.

“We ruined an extraordinary performance of a great Spezia team for 90 minutes. On Sunday, we play again, let’s look ahead.”

Spezia, currently 16th in the League, now prepare for an away game at San Siro against Inter on Sunday.
