Vincenzo Italiano was content with the ‘attitude’ of his Fiorentina in their 2-1 win away to Genoa. ‘We must continue like this.’

This is the best start to a Serie A season for the Viola since 2005-06, when they finished fifth, picking up nine points from the opening four rounds.

Riccardo Saponara was an inspired substitution against Genoa, coming off the bench to score a goal and provide an assist for Giacomo Bonaventura.

“It’s not easy to win here, we managed to do it with an excellent performance,” Italiano told DAZN.

“I liked the attitude from the lads, although we were at first surprised by the way Genoa were set out with a four-man defence, we readjusted.

“It was the first of three tough games this week and important to pick up points.”

Their next test on Tuesday is against Scudetto holders Inter in the midweek round.

This is a completely different Fiorentina to the one seen last season under both Beppe Iachini and Cesare Prandelli, with quick passing, entertainment and plenty of chances.

“We work to have more scoring opportunities than the opposition, and are happy to be keeping the chances at the other end relatively few and far between.

“We must continue like this, as we cannot lose the focus and dedication we’ve had so far. I am happy for Ricky, as he’s been going close to a goal for a few games now.”
